Scott C. Nelson

Scott C. Nelson was born Christmas Day, 1962, to Shirley (Hoffman) and Orris C. Nelson of Dilworth, MN. He attended Dilworth grade school and graduated from Dilworth High School and then from Bemidji State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

He was employed by the Federal Government in Health and Human Services as a Senior Auditor, retiring in 2021 after 33 years moving back to Moorhead from Woodbury, MN.

He died following a fall in his home on Sunday, June 1, 2025. Scott had a tumor on his brain removed in 2022 and bravely survived and was currently living independently in the home he purchased in Moorhead.

Family was all important to him and in his early years spent time at his grandparents and great uncle’s farm, his favorite place being fed by cousin, Dar.

After the death of his father, his mom’s back surgery, and her diagnosis of Parkinsons, he and his brother, Mark (The Squatter) took his mom to Woodbury, MN, for her last days still keeping their lake home on Leaf Lake, Lake Park, MN.

Scott collected model John Deere Tractors, Terry Redlin plates, and cookie jars. He was constantly reading (only real books with pages to turn!). He was a good cook and made the best blarney bars.

He is survived by his sister, Pam (Gary Johnson) Nelson, Moorhead, MN; brother, Craig (Anita) Nelson, their children, Christopher (Morgan) Nelson and Nick Nelson, Baldwin, ND; and brother, Mark Nelson, Lake Park, MN; a favorite aunt, Bea Vining, West Fargo, ND; great aunt and uncle, Marion and Alfred Bachman, Frazee, MN; cousins, David (Wayne Sander) Hoffman, Moorhead, MN, Lyle and Mary Hovelson, Hawley, MN, Milton Hovelson, Red Wing, MN, Dennis and Judy Hovelson, Lewiston, MN; and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and extended family.

Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Final resting place will be at Casselton Cemetery, Casselton, ND.
