July 9, 1937 – March 5, 2026
Susan M. Herfindahl, 88, of Lake Park, MN, passed away with family by her side on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Sunnyside Care Center, Lake Park, MN. Susan was born July 9, 1937, in Fargo, ND, to Clarence and Esther (Benedict) Jacobsen. She attended a one room schoolhouse in Comstock, MN, and later graduated from Moorhead High School in 1955. Susan continued her education at MSTC, now Minnesota State University Moorhead, and was a proud member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. After graduating from college, Susan began her career at GMAC, which led to meeting her husband, Harlan Herfindahl. They were married on August 28, 1960. Together they made their home on the farm and started a family. Over the years, Susan enjoyed staying active in the community, church, and spending time with friends. Susan was artistic, liked to knit, crochet, and was and was wonderful cook and excellent baker, well known for her pies, caramel rolls and tea rings. In 2004, they moved to their lake home where she loved to entertain, keep busy with her hobbies and most of all spend time with family.
Susan is survived by her husband, Harlan; children, Tom (Cheryl) Herfindahl, Jane (Brad) Pake; grandchildren, Alexa (Bryant) Briard, Marcus Herfindahl, Blair Herfindahl, Erika Pake, Maria Pake and Andy Pake; great-grandchildren, Farrah and Flint Briard; twin sister, Sharon Witt and sister JoAnn Nyquist; brother-in-law, Orris Larson; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Esther Jacobsen; parents-in-law, Dewey and Olga Herfindahl; brothers-in-law, Robert Nyquist, Glen Witt, Duane Herfindahl, Orland Engebretson; sisters-in-law, Delores “Dee” Herfindahl, Marlys Engebretson and Marlene Larson; as well as a nephew, Kevin Engebretson.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Sunnyside Care Center and HIA Hospice for the wonderful care given to Susan.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 14, from 9:30 - 10:30 AM, followed by the memorial service at 10:30 AM, in Lake Park Lutheran Church, Lake Park, MN.
