Virginia M. Burnside

September 7, 1937 — August 14, 2021

The family of Virginia Mae “Ginger” Burnside is saddened to announce the passing of their mother on August 14, 2021. Virginia was born on September 7, 1937 in Pelican Rapids, MN, a daughter of the late John and Selma Berend. A graduate of Frazee High School (1955), she attended the University of MN and worked as a Pharmacy Tech at the Fargo Clinic in ND. She married the late Lloyd L. Burnside at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee, MN in June 1957 and together they raised their family farming north of Hawley, MN. When the children were all of school age, she worked at the Super Valu in Hawley for 7 years.

She is remembered as a loving wife, mother and a gentle soul who cared about her family, friends and all who knew her. Along with her fondness for gardening, she was a wonderful cook, who enjoyed feeding anyone who came to her home. She was also a baker, renowned for her homemade pies and donuts. Virginia was a devoted member of Our Savior’s Church in Hawley where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, and was a member of Our Savior’s Ladies Aid and then became a member of Hawley Lutheran Church. Her kindness, compassion and sense of humor were her innate gifts, always putting others at ease.

Ginger was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband of 60 years, Lloyd, and sister, Marlyce Estenson. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her daughters, Vicki Burnside and Jean (Tim) Schwartz, son Tom (Julie) Burnside, along with grandchildren Ashley, Nicholas, Doyle (Abby), and Kayla (Nate) and her great-grandchildren, Oliver and Benjamin and Don Estenson, her genuine and caring, brother-in-law.
