William “Bill” Lawrence Mayville died at home on July 21,2022, with his daughter, Catrina, by his side and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Bill was born on January 27, 1942, in Minneapolis, MN to Robert Mayville and Marjorie (Brademan) Mayville. He grew up in Minneapolis and attended school there.
In January 1960, he enlisted in the Air Force. He travelled to many different bases. His favorite station time was in Fairbanks, AK. He loved it up there so much that one of his favorite shows has been “Life Below Zero.’ Bill was honorably discharged in February 1965.
On October 22, 1966, Bill married Carole Haglund in Watertown, SD. They lived in Minnesota until 1986 when they moved to Fargo, ND. Bill had many different jobs but the one that he did for most of his life was drive truck. He worked for many different companies such as Dittmer Trucking in Felton, MN, Can Am Express Fargo, ND, and later in his trucking career he worked for Nerland Oil and J5 trucking. Bill traveled all over the country, delivering all types of goods. Bill retired in 2007 from driving the “big rig!” Bill and Carole traveled to various countries in their early retirement years. Bill loved to go to the lake with Carole and stay in their RV and go fishing. It was always a challenge to see who would catch the biggest fish between them. You could always find Bill puttering around the RV and spending his time outside a much as he could. Bill fully enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and especially his great-grandchildren.
In 2007 Bill was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He continued to live his life to fullest and cherishing each new thing. As the Parkinson’s took more control, Bill moved in with his daughter Trina. He was always learning new things about this disease. He was a great advocate for himself and others.
Bill is survived by his four children, Catrina (Brian) Gullickson, Moorhead, MN, Cynthia Stangel, Duluth, MN, Casandra Mayville, Fargo, ND, and Nicholas Mayville, Fargo, ND; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Wiggly Grandpa!”; brother, Robert (Bobby) Mayville, Chippewa Falls, WI; and 3 nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Carole; infant son, William Lawrence Jr.; granddaughter, Meghan Lewis; parents, Robert Mayville, Marjorie Norman and Marion Shepard; sister, Diane Mayville; and grandparents.

Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 2:00 P.M., Monday August 1, 2022, at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN, at a later date.
