June Haugrud

June 2, 1928 — November 28, 2020

Arletta “June” Haugrud, 92, of Lake Park, MN, died Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Essentia Health, St. Mary’s in Detroit Lakes, MN. June was born on June 2, 1928, to Eltjo and Jenny (Sherman) Goeman in Jeffers, MN, where she grew up and graduated from high school. Following high school, June worked and enjoyed traveling for some time before moving to Lake Park to care for the children of her sister, Hazel Wiecks. This is where she met Harvey Haugrud and they married on May 24, 1950. Together they made their home in Lake Park and started a family. June worked for various businesses in town including the lefse factory, clothing store, grocery store and later enjoyed her time at Nelson Drug Store until retirement. She enjoyed being active in the community through the Birthday Club, Garden Club, Midnight Riders, and American Legion Auxiliary. June loved her church and church family, especially quilting and bible studies. She was always eager to play cards, board games, or put together puzzles. June was very social and would visit others whenever she had the chance; her positive attitude was infectious. She was always thankful for her many great friends, family, and the community in which she lived.

She was very proud of her grandchildren. They have many fond memories of fun times at the farm, grandma camp, road trips and adventures, lake time, her special cookies, and many quirky traditions. Her nieces and nephews were also important to her and she was thankful they included her in their lives.

The past three years June lived at Sunnyside Care Center. She was especially fond of the caregivers and grateful for her time there.  June will be dearly missed.

June is survived by her daughters Pamela (John) Midthune of Moorhead, MN, Paulette Dorval of Belfield, ND; grandchildren, Nick (Amanda) Midthune of Moorhead, MN, Brea (Philip Kavanagh) Midthune of Minneapolis, MN, Megan (Dustin) Chapman of Perry, GA, Maren (Josh Yue) Dorval of Shakopee, MN; and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Carter Midthune, Fionn and Ronan Kavanagh and Drayson and Daxton Chapman.  June also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey; son-in-law, Lawrence Dorval; her parents, and all 13 siblings and their spouses.
