David Richard Grosz
May 14, 1935 – August 17, 2016

David Richard Grosz entered eternity Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead, Minnesota, surrounded by his loving family.

David Richard Grosz was born in Fargo, ND, May 14, 1935 to Richard T. and Hazel Hammer Grosz. He moved to Moorhead at an early age and was educated in Moorhead Schools, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1954. David loved sports and played basketball and track through high school. Until last fall, he could often be seen walking the sidelines, at the Moorhead football games with his “buddies.”

He joined the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1953 and served eight years. He married his high school sweetheart, Paula Snapp, December 30, 1955, at Calvary Baptist Church in Fargo. He joined his father in the professional photography business in 1955. David’s father died in 1972 whereupon he operated Grosz Studio solely until joined by his son, Brad in 1982. The business was sold in 2006 after three generations and 75 years in business.

David was active in many areas both professionally and personally. He lived his strong Christian faith serving in his church as Sunday School teacher, elder, trustee and many other areas. He especially enjoyed grounds keeping in his retirement. He was a Gideon and served on the Board of Trustees of both Oak Grove Lutheran High School and the University of Northwestern in St. Paul. He was a member of the Minnesota and North Dakota Professional Photography Associations and the Professional Photographers of America, and had received many awards for his work.

David had many close personal friends throughout his life, but was actually a friend to everyone he met. His family and friends were very important to him. He loved his children and grandchildren and the times at the lake where we could enjoy being together. He loved family, but we all understood that his relationship with Jesus Christ was the most important thing in his life.

He was a good man, noble in heart and dedicated in all things that mattered – foremost being his faith and family. He will be forever missed.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Paula; children, Brad Ann Grosz, Cindy Ken Schwanke; grandchildren, Daniel Ashley Grosz, Jenna Julian McMillian, Mary Adam Waldorf, Beth Andrew Karges, Carson Rickbeil, Carissa Rickbeil and Morgan Michael Morse; great-grandchildren, Harley, Malachi, Cash, Micah and Cora; brothers, William Mary Anne, Theodore Connie and Paul; sister, Annetta Knowles; sisters-in-law, Janet Douglas Main, Maribeth Teigen and Marjorie Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores; infant brother, James; and brothers-in-law, John Knowles, Robert Teigen, Jack Snapp, Randall Snapp, and Michael Anderson.

The family would like to thank his special friends who visited him while he was ill. And we extend a special thanks to the 3rd floor staff at Eventide who treated David with kindness and compassion.
