Marlene Pederson

Marlene L. (Christenson) Pederson, 86, Hillsboro, formerly of Georgetown, MN, passed away from natural causes on November 10, 2017.

One of eight children born to Nels and Bernette (Trudell) Christenson on April 29, 1931.  She graduated from Westhope High School.  She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo after graduation.

She met and married Gene Pederson.  To this marriage six children were born.

Marlene and Gene moved to Felton, MN.  In 1973 Marlene and the children moved back to Georgetown where she was a city treasurer, an active member of the Community Club, and the Georgetown Snowmobile Club.  She worked in Aggie’s Bar and the Outback Saloon serving the people who were like her second family.

She became a part time postal clerk in 1966, was a relief postal mistress at Felton, and a substitute rural carrier in the Georgetown area, along with being a postal clerk at the Fargo post office, until she was sworn in as the Georgetown post mistress in July of 1979 where she worked until her retirement in 1992.

Throughout Marlene’s life she enjoyed traveling with her sisters Gen and Edna, playing pinochle, reading, playing bingo, and cooking.  She loved to feed the people at the Outback Saloon for various events.

When traveling with Gen and Edna, Marlene was in charge of the “recipe,” which meant the bar was open.  They enjoyed their travels together visiting relatives and meeting new people throughout the states.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Clifford, Luella Seiffert, Arnold, and Jeannette Mullen.  She is survived by sisters Edna, Gen, and Ione.

She is also survived by children, Debbie Pacholke, Monte (Pam), Larry Pederson, Cindy Meyer, Tom (Cindy) Pederson, Tim (Marie) Pederson; eight grandchildren, Joe, Kimberly, Michael, Samantha, Holly, Kayla, Stacy, Cass and 13 Great-Grandchildren.

A wake service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church, Georgetown, MN.

Burial will take place at a later date.
