Patricia “Pat” Schenck

February 16, 1935 — July 7, 2022

“All I have been blessed with and all I have become is because of the Lord Jesus Christ. All I am and all I have been blessed with has been surrendered to him. All of my yesterdays now make sense. All of my tomorrows will now be spent with him in eternity.”

Patricia (Pat) Blumer Schenck went to her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 7, 2022 at Bethany on University in Fargo, North Dakota under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley at the age of 87.

Pat was born in Fargo, North Dakota on February 16, 1935. She grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High in 1952. She continued her education after high school for 2 years at Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, Minnestoa from 1960-1962 and from there Pat continued her education at University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. During her summers while in Grand Forks she taught oil painting for their summer park program as well as teaching classes in interior design at Moorhead Tech School for one year.

Pat loved creating. She enjoyed art and its history as well as interior design. She painted many pictures for family and friends that she would often give as gifts and still painted as much as possible until she was no longer able to. She also enjoyed interior decorating not only her own home but her friends homes and whoever else needed some creative inspiration for theirs. Pat spent over 40 years doing interior design and all of those projects were enjoyable hobbies for her.

Her true career dedication was a 28 ½ year career with Bell Telephone where she started at the age of 17 beginning as a long distance operator and making her way through the company as the first commercial artist hired by North Western Bell for their phone books as well as other departments. She worked 8 different jobs during her career at North Western Bell with her favorite being in marketing as a service advisor where she was a well known business woman in the Fargo-Moorhead area. She specialized in training on PBX telephone systems and evaluated the telephone systems throughout North Dakota and part of Minnesota. Pat retired in 1980 due to a car accident that ended her work career at the age of 47.

Pats absolute greatest love and biggest blessing was her two children. She waited over 12 years for her son Cale and 3 years later she was blessed with her daughter Coco. Pat was at her happiest in her role as being an amazing mom who was loving, kind, compassionate, and always made time for her children no matter what and with her unwavering faith in Jesus would pray with and for her children and made certain they knew Jesus at a young age. They were her greatest love and yet they were the blessed ones to be able to call her mom.

Pat also loved her friends dearly and she loved to do personal shopping for them and decorating their homes. There were many lunches and shopping dates over the years where much fun and laughter were had. Her longest friendship was a 79 plus year friendship with her childhood neighbor Sharon (Don) Brennan. Lasting friendships like this were a testament of her dedication, devotion and love for many amazing friends.

One of Pats greatest earthly enjoyments was nature. She absolutely loved spending time at the family lake cabin on Fish Lake located on Pelican Lake near Dunvilla, Minnesota. She enjoyed fishing and bird watching and would often joke that she was a bit of a bird nerd. She also loved dogs and cats and as a child had a menagerie of cats, dogs, rabbits, pigeons and horses. She loved her childhood horses and as a young girl often rode in parades and horse shows.

In 2016 Pat entered Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth, Minnesota. She enjoyed living there and absolutely loved and became friends with the whole staff. She attended many exercise and painting classes and other forms of entertainment over her time there. She made many new friends and enjoyed the people who resided there. Definitely a custom fit for her. Thank you to the whole Team at Serenity Assisted Living for loving and caring for our amazing mom.

Pat was classy, elegant, and dressed to the nines. She had an impeccable style. You didn’t need to know Pat long to be touched by her spirit. She was an amazing mother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Pat is survived by her daughter Ondria (Coco) and son-in-law Tim Brendemuhl and daughter-in-law Mary Schenck.  Pat is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Andrea (Envik) Blumer, and her beloved son, Cale Schenck of Devenport, Iowa. (2011).
