Roger A. Goettsch

April 25, 1939 — September 22, 2021

Roger Allen Goettsch passed away on September 22, 2021.

Born and raised in Holstein, Iowa, he was preceded in death by his father, Alfred “Tootie”; stepfather, Bill Lucia; brother, David; and mother, Leona.

Roger was the first in his family to go to college, attending Mankato State, where he met his wife, B. Karen Loken. He went on to obtain a doctorate degree from Penn State. Roger and Karen settled in Moorhead and Roger taught Art at Fargo South High School for over 30 years. He enjoyed two sabbaticals teaching in England where he gained a love for British cars. After he retired, Karen suffered a brain injury and Roger selflessly took care of her for the last 8 years of her life.

Roger had many talents and skills; he both designed and built a summer home for his family to enjoy and where he could go fishing. He was a prolific artist, writer, poet, as well as philosopher. He was a kind and generous man.

He is survived by his daughters, Sara Goettsch and Amy Franckowiak, their spouses/partners, Christopher Bernt and Jim Franckowiak, and granddaughters, Emily Chapman, Mandy Cich (Kyle), and Leah Chapman, as well many friends. He will be missed. Per his request there will be no formal memorial service.
